with respect, but I would say that success of such tactics would depend on the type of product being promoted.

Of course and the products I have been involved in were nearly all major brands but there is no reason why some of the same strategies can not be used for a good product. I would suggest instead of having a repeat ad in Horse and Hound, which is expensive, you spread your advertising out amongst a wider variety of publications. Invest in some good PR material and yes try something different like a mail drop or advertising at local shows but naked in WH Smiths and playing the trumpet would be advertising a different skill!!
