I'm spending my tea breaks in the studio enjoying 'Farm Animal Portraits' by Elspeth Moncreiff; I hadn't realised just how ignorant I was of the history of my own profession until I painted a favourite cow for some Longhorn breeders who also collect & deal antique animal portraits. They showed me their collection of paintings which was just amazing, and recommended this book which includes plenty about equine portraiture as well.

That sounds interesting- are you going to the AGM? If so, could you bring it along? (What with one thing and another it sounds like it will be a read-in.)

Believe me Seth, I'm a very lapsed Art Historian - ought to be ashamed of myself and do some serious revision. Besides, I was a Medievalist - don't know much about the 19th/20th centuries. Used to know lots about Books of Hours and Carolingian ivories - all alas forgotten or buried very deep in the dodgy memory banks. The Limburg brothers (Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry), Jean Fouquet and King Rene of Anjou were all very good horse painters though, and the Van Eyks...........
Will be at AGM armed with paintings for SG and Katy (will you be there Katy?), easels, books and files.

We're all going to be arriving with wheelbarrows at this rate.
Medievalist, eh? so was my flatmate. For her, anything after Duccio was 'modern'. ![]()
